First Day + Funny Guy layouts

Love these photos from the twins' first day of preschool - they were so excited waiting for the bus and that excitement hasn't waned one bit. Even on Saturday they ask "are we going to school today?" This layout is based on the 9/12 Sunday Sketch over at Studio Calico. The original layout is by Jen Jockish - one of my all-time favorite designers.

I am still practicing my misting technique and achieved the border on this layout by misting around a die-cut sheet of paper. Its fun to experiment but I don't like the way the paper curls after it has been wet. It has something to do with the water-based mist I think - other brands don't seem to have this problem as much. That's okay - nothing a hot blow dryer can't straighten out.

PS - did you check out the sale at Michael's this week? Punches are 50% off - as you can see on the strips above, I stocked up.

Supplies: September Studio Calico Kit - Back 40, EK Sucess & Recollection punches, K&Co owl sticker, MM journal card

Also based on the 8/21 Studio Calico sketch by Emily Pitts, I completed this layout last weekend. So many of my layouts include three similar photos from the same setting so I snuck in one extra at the bottom. These are the silly faces my stepson makes when he's displaying his emotions. In order, they are: mean face, surprised face, happy face and at the bottom is my favorite - sad face. He looks truly in anguish. I thought the border paper was a fun shape - its the leftovers from cutting out an envelope.

The other thing I like about this layout is the two instances of added girlishness  - glitter and jewels - that doesn't hinder the masculinity of the page. Hooray!

More layouts to share tomorrow, I can't believe the week is almost over.
