Candy's Fine but Love is Sweeter dress

I have been looking forward to making this dress ever since I picked up the fabric and pattern at Joann's last month and totally intended to finish it before Valentine's. But it didn't work out that way. It was finished on Monday but we didn't get any photos taken until today.

I love love love the peachy pink color of the fabric! It's a mesh jersey that has a sporty feel to it which makes it wearable as an everyday dress and not just a special occasion dress. Oh and it was $1.75/yard!!

The pattern is Simplicity 2305 by Cynthia Rowley. Really cute shape but really baggy on top. Like two sizes too big. (See first photo) It probably would have fit well when I was nursing but for now I'll just have to invest in a cute red undershirt.

My fav part is the little red bows on the sleeves. Red just looks so good with this color. But other than the red belt and heels (which aren't very practical) I don't really have any ideas on how to accessorize it. Any ideas?

Here's the back. Oh by the way I added the thick band at the bottom to mimic the sleeve band. The pattern was just straight and a little too plain.

Nude satin lining inside the skirt. The top has the same mesh lining.

Or course I made a matching tunic and skirt for the girls with the leftover material. I find this is also a great way to get comfortable with the material and see how it will stretch/lay/feed into the machine. The tunic is altered dress pattern 2767 by Simplicity and the skirt was made without a pattern - it's just a waistband, folded over and sewn to a large rectangle gathered in the middle. The seam is in the back. Almost like an A-line.

We'll def have to plan a girl's date and wear them out on the town together.

Have a wonderful weekend! xo

Spring Cleaning Giveaway!!

Hello my friends! I've spent the last few weeks cleaning out my stash, getting rid of product I won't use and making room for all the lovely new releases from CHA and in honor of reaching 10,000 posts would like to pass it on to someone else. It's all a bit older but high quality papers from Basic Grey, Sass, SEI, etc. There are flowers, stamps, journaling cards, ribbon etc.

If you are interested, please become a follower and leave a comment about your favorite new line that is coming out. Local, stateside and international shipping is all fine by me. I'll choose the winner on Monday the 28th.

Thanks so much for stopping by! xo

Our Happy Home

Kristy's sketch went up yesterday at Design Dollies and there are tons of colorful pages for inspiration! I created this page using the sketch about the home we have lived in for the past 4.5 years. This is the longest I've lived in the same house since I moved away from home so it's kind of a big deal. Hopefully we will be living in a home of our very own before summer arrives but it would be nice to remember the memories that were had in our "Red Roof Inn."

Project 52: Week 7

Another one from the zoo. We have been spending lots of fun time there lately thanks to the membership grandpa got us for Christmas. Saturday was a beautiful day too, nice enough for a picnic!

my Counterfeit Kit - February

When I saw this new challenge site, Counterfeit Kit Challenge (via Valerie) I knew it was a perfect fit! I have a pretty big stash and even though I purge every six months or so, there is no way to ever use it all, especially with new, must-have product coming out all the time. With this challenge site, you recreate current kits from clubs using what you already have and they also encourage you to make some of the embellies and what nots on your own using the tools we also tend to accumulate. What an amazing idea!

The current kit being counterfeited is from Scraps of Darkness. I always admire the kits that are sort of goth/punk/dark Lolita inspired but not enough to actually shell out. And now I don't have to because what do, you know, I already had most of the makings on hand. Above is the photo of my whole kit with papers, embellies, alphas and all. I stuck to the feel of the original kit and didn't get too fussy about matching each little piece.

Here is just the papers - there is some MME, various lines from Basic Grey and JBS. Also 3 neutral papers and 2 colored cardstocks too.

I like a variety of alphas for titles and chose 4 partially used sets to coordinate.

The embellishments are really random but there are die cuts, flowers, rub-ons, journaling cards, page pebbles, some metal earrings I never wear, pins, jewels and a variety of trims. Texture is the word I had in mind.

I've made one card already and am really excited to finally use up all these lost souls that are still lovely, but just a couple seasons old. Will post projects soon!

lil' Ruffle Apron

Just sharing an apron I made for my own little Bakerella out of some leftover fabric from this dress. See the pintucks at the waistband? Here's a close-up:

Enjoy the day! xo

14 Things I Love

Haven't had enough Love yet you say? Well here is one more layout featuring 14 frivolous things I love - because not all love has to be profound. Example: My favorite jeans I wear every single day. Sleeping late on an ordinary day. Dessert after dinner every night.

I created this page for the romantic challenge over at Design Dollies this week - use Valentines.

I picked up all the goodies on this page at Cassie's shop. She's got a really fun mix of embellishment kits - go check em out. No really, go!!

Project 52: Week 6

Yes, this is a terrible photo, but it's the only one I took last week. Me, planning in my notebook, lips pursed in thought. I've done that since I was a child and wish I could stop but I'll always be a lip purser. Grr.

VDay cards for boys

Happy Valentine's Day! Do you have big plans for tonight? We'll be staying in but I did the make the old man a card (and may slip a sexy picture inside) just in case he has any doubts that I love him.

One of the challenges at Back Porch Memories for February was to make a masculine card - to me that means simple so I had enough time to make 3! There is one for each of his sides - romantic (he is under all that tough exterior), egotistical (he considers himself a god) and randy too (let's not go there).

If your celebrating, I wish you a very magical night!

talking bout the birds and the bees...

If today's gorgeous temps were any indication, spring is just around that corner! Hallelujah! That also means its time to link up your projects featuring birds and bees (and butterflies too) at Paper Issues!!!
I created this little tribute to the season with some of my daughter's baby pics and the super fun new Crate for SC exclusive papers. So happy and cheerful!

The title was actually supposed to say sunshine one your shoulders rather than on my shoulders but I was in too big a hurry and put stamp to paper too quickly. Oopsie. But it's from the John Denver song if you didn't already know. There is a really beautiful children's book after the song that we love to read.

Oh and the grass! I've always wanted to try making some. All those little cuts made my shoulders ache. Scrapbooking can be a hazardous hobby ya know.

So do you have any projects with birds and bees and butterflies? Link em up here.

a couple challenge pages

Hey there. I've been sick the last couple days and not really feeling the mojo. Completed a couple challenges with sketches but even with the help...nada. That's okay, let me share them with you anyhow.
First is for Project 12. To accommodate the fact I've scrapped almost every photo we took in January, I condensed the sketch to a single page. But the colors just aren't working together. It's okay, what's important is that it got done.

Second up is a page completed using the 2/6 Sunday sketch at Studio Calico, combined with Lisa's challenge to use a photo from the same month but a different year. This photo of 4 generations of our girls taken in 2008 is very special and was framed until my daughter broke it a while back. I'm glad to finally have it on scrapped. Nicole Samuels' sketch was gorgeous but it all went wrong for me starting with the misting. On a positive note, this was my first time cutting a title from patterned paper and I will def be doing this again soon! Love it!

Oh and the rosettes turned out cute too.

Hope your weekend is wonderful!

Punch Storage

A few weekends back, I found this wonderful wire rack buried high up in our landlord's barn of treasures (they are serious garage salers/junk collectors) and was so excited to find that it was the perfect solution for storing punches. All it took was a good dusting and a fresh coat of silver spray paint to make it new again.

Call me lazy but when I'm scrapping if I don't have all my supplies within reach on the desk or at least in plain sight, I tend to not use them. So this is perfect, although I may need to add to my punch collection now, it's looking a little sparse...;)

Here's the before.

XOXO Challenge #16 - Believe In Love

The newest challenge is up over at XOXO! Head on over to the blog to check out what the other Lipstick Chicks have put together to inspire you this month. Here is my creation:

In honor of upcoming Valentine's, I had to do another page about you guessed it, L-O-V-E. My husband and I have been together since I was 20, broken up at least 10 times, broken each other's hearts and yet we are still together. If our love for each other can surpass all the drama our relationship has seen, well then I guess it must be true and that is something to believe in. I dug through some old files to find the photos above - the one of just him is probably 6 years old, in the middle is from last month, and the one of us on the right, which is prob my fav photo of us ever, is from about 4 years ago.

Now it's your turn to create. Scraplift a layout (or 2 or 3) from any one of the Lipstick Chicks for a chance to win a prize from our generous February sponsor, Candy Shoppe Designs.

Guest @ Design Dollies!

Hey there again! I just saw that their post is live and wanted to share with you that I am so excited to be the guest doll at Design Dollies this month! For those of you who aren't familiar, they have 3 challenges each month and then a 4th trifecta challenge that combines all three - color, elements, sketch. Of course there is a prize and what I think is extra cool is that for the most part they sponsor themselves.

Anyway, here the card I creating using the February color challenge:

This one was def a challenge for me - I like purple but it's kind of hard to use. I googled the colors green, purple and ivory and all these wedding related photos kept coming up - bouquets, bridesmaid dresses, and what not - so I went with the theme and made a card with a yummy wedding cake.

Hope to see you play along this month!

Project 52: Week 5

Me and the computer screen. A photo you could capture several times a day in our household. Yes I admit, I have a bit of an internet addiction. It's better than watching TV right? I'm getting inspired, I'm blogging, I'm networking - those are just a few of the excuses. Anyone else care to fess up? Anyone.....?

LGC Blog Party: Day 3

Today is the third and final day of the Lucky Girl Crafts blog party and your final chance to win! We are celebrating this amazing kit:
And here are my final two layouts - I actually made boy pages! The really great thing about this kit is that while one side of the paper has flowers, the other has a neutral so it is super versatile!

I think are kids our pretty lucky to have pets because I was never allowed growing up. Keegan is pretty fond of the dogs even though he can't help but tease them a bit.

This second page is also about Keegan. The poor guy has so much energy pent up and since it's been too cold to go outside and burn it off, it's been surfacing in the wrong ways - picking on his sisters, breaking toys, getting into things he's not supposed to. But I understand and made this page about all the things I imagine he wishes to be doing instead...rainy day dreams.

LGC Blog Party: Day 2

Today is day 2 of the Lucky Girl Crafts blog party (see Day 1 projects here)! This month we're celebrating an amazing new kit:

Here is another fun project I've created using some of the more girly elements of the kit:

Dress up is certainly a popular pastime at our house. Leah changes in and out of fancy dresses all day long and we hear lots of muttering coming from the girls' room about who's which princess and acting out of scenarios they watched on TV. The journaling reads, "Yes dear, you are a princess."
Please join us each day of the blog party (February 1, 2 & 3) to take a peek at the projects the Lucky Girl DT has created with this month's kit. We'll also be giving away prizes to a few LUCKY GIRLS - are you one of them? Read on to find out how you can win!

Lucky Girl Crafts Blog Party: Day 1

Welcome to the first day of the Lucky Girl Crafts blog party! It's my very first time joining in so thanks for stopping by! This month we're celebrating an amazing new kit:

I've created 4 fun layouts to help inspire you with this month but will only reveal just one today!

This page is about a little zoo adventure we took the day after Christmas. There is nothing like spending a day with wild animals to bring out the kid in all of us. The only animals outdoors were the jungle cats and they - the lions, tigers and leopard - all happened to be right up close to the window. The tiger even stood on his hind legs and pawed at the window we were 3 inches in front of. Kinda scary, even with glass in between!! My daughter screamed! I forgot to bring my camera but luckily there was a photo booth to take a few snapshots. The colors in Kid At Heart coordinated perfectly with the photo printouts!

Please join us each day of the blog party (February 1, 2 & 3) to take a peek at the projects the Lucky Girl DT has created with this month's kit. We'll also be giving away prizes to a few LUCKY GIRLS - are you one of them? Read on to find out how you can win!
